NRHA News

In the beginning...
I bought Sweetie from a breeder in Oregon as an unbroke long-yearling. The farm she came from had both her mom and dad there on the premises. The sire, Chocolate Chic Olena, had earned over 90,000 in NRHA earnings and won both the Open and Non-Pro divisions of The Derby in the same year. The mare had been trained, but was never shown. I had them start her under saddle, then brought her to a barn near my home, in Washington State, to work on her basic skills. I moved her to a stable with a resident reining trainer and took some lessons from him to ensure I started her out in the right direction to be a reiner.

That fall I put her in training for one month to evaluate her potential. She did great! So, the next spring, I took her to the trainer to begin her road to reining. Unfortunately she was injured in her stall in September and came home for a 6 month rest. At four, in early spring, I took her back to the trainer to start her show career. She was to be my non-pro horse, but I wanted the trainer to show her some as well. She started out at a couple local Quarter Horse cow horse events, ran by NWRCHA and placed very well with the trainer riding.
