2006 Cavalier 2 horse trailer
When I bought my Classic Westerner trailer, it was purchased for Sweetie who, even though she loaded slow, was a quiet hauler, never fussing, pawing or kicking. Then after she sold and I bought Checks, I heard that he was a bad hauler, having not been to many places. I immediately thought that my poor single wall aluminum trailer was in trouble. I wasn't looking forward to it getting dinged up by a kicker or pawer. On a whim I went to my favorite horse trailer web site: Horse Trailer World and I saw that the manufacturer of the Westerner had taken their second tier model, one up from mine, the Cavalier and had revamped it in 2006. The pricing on it was down by over 2k.

I sent some emails out asking for trade in values for mine and I could get most of my money back by trading in. My trailer was in pristine shape. I mentioned to my mom that I was trading it in and she wanted a day or two to consider buying it for herself. That caught me off guard, but worked as I didnt need to make the swap unil the next weekend. The very next day my mom brought her friend down, who cut her vacation short to come see it, and she bought it right then and there. I gave her a great deal and calculate that had I traded it in I would have came out $27 ahead. Because the trailer sold, it made the purchase easier. I bought the trailer from a distributor in Oregon. It was an 8 hour drive down. The distributor is a mustang ranch and in fact is the founder of the Kiger Mountain Mustang registry. I got to go meet all the mustangs, they must have well over 50 there.

I saw a new baby and registry horses number 1 and 2!

So, I turned the trailer purchase into a short camping trip and scenic tour! Ok, back to the trailer... The Cavalier is double wall, insulated on the back, and on the front, double wall to the windows. The windows are the extra large ones so the horse can hang their head out safely. The smooth skin is painted white. It looks like your basic steel trailer but in aluminum. All other features are the same as the unpainted, single wall, small window Westerner. It drove the 8 hours home behind the RV just dandy. Ironically my RV model name is also Cavalier, so I now have a "pair" of Cavaliers, very weird, like it was meant to be. I guesstimate that it won't have a horse in it until next spring when I start to show Checks, but I could see using it earlier if I go to any Oregon shows.

One tip I have learned is how to remove road tar splatter off of the aluminum. When I picked it up I noticed tar staining on the aluminum fender, but I figured it was dirt...wrong! I looked online for ideas, using the Horse Trailer World Forum in fact, got ideas for cleaning it up. I bought an aluminum polish at Shuck's auto supply. The brand is Mothers. It cleaned up the fender great!
