2009 Was a good show season for Checks and I, we earned NRHA $ at every NHRA show we attended this year. Our total earnings increased over $500 with casual showing. At club shows we won most of our classes which felt wonderful. I maintain Checks myself and find him very easy to work with. We did take one lesson this fall and it went very well! And, yes Checks is still for sale. The economy is bleak, but an economically priced reining horse is always a good thing to have. Checks is a completely finished show horse, ready to head down the road with a confident rider. He prefers to have a dedicated rider over a training environment. He loves the outdoors and is always ready to go to work with never an off day. Checks can plus all maneuvers, but his strongest are the turnarounds which he consistently plusses as long as I can stay out of his way. Checks was slow to blossom and was not the derby horse I had hoped he would be. I am selling him so I can get that derby horse of my dreams. Checks will make someone a great aged horse to show for many years.
I like to play in Excel so I extracted his full NRHA history and ran some formulas to see how his numbers shake down. Statistically speaking, what kind of reining return are you going to see by owning a horse like Checks? I am a Limited/L1 Novice Non Pro rider, and as such it is very seldom I will sign up for Int/Non Pro or the L2 Novice horse. So, From July of 2007 through October of 2009 Checks has been shown in 31 NRHA classes (Limited NP, l1 Novice Horse NP and Open). Of those 31 gos, Checks has earned a paycheck 51% of the time and of those paycheck-earning runs, 31% of them were in the top 3 placings and he has won 3 times. He was shown as a 3 year old in one futurity and would have scored a 141.5 had he not lost a lead going through the middle, it was deep and he stumbled a bit behind, it was very bad luck, that 141.5 would have put him in th $. The trainer consistently scored 71-71.5 with him and I sit at 69-70 very consistently since I have had him at home with me, we were not as competitive when he was in training, go figure. We have achieved as high as 72.5 removing penalties, I know they don't count, but if I can ever figure out how to stay out of his way we would have some great achievements! He does just as well if not a little better in the club classes, I think more people school in them and I tend to be less nervous as well.
Checks has never been off for any reason and I have taken him down the road for 3 full seasons. He is as sound as they come. I have him on Adequan monthly, administered by me and he does take antihistamines for allergies daily.
